Resignation of Rector John McCabe

Dear Parishioners

After 18 years as Rector of St Mary’s Byfleet, our Rector, John, has decided to step closer towards retirement. He has held the role with a profound sense of gratitude to God for the invitation to serve this community, and he counts it as very great privilege to have been able so to do.  He and Pippa have discerned that the time is right for John to move on from this role and he does so with a mixture of thanksgiving and sadness.

In practical terms they will not end up too far away. They have been fortunate (and have received as surprising gift) a home to move to in the Diocese.

John has written to the Archdeacon today to resign with an extended Notice period (i.e. longer than the required 3 months). He has  also spoken to the Bishop and was met with some very kind words of thanks and encouragement.

John and Pippa’s last Sunday here will be July 7th.

Meanwhile we have contacted the Archdeacon to arrange a meeting to discuss the initiation of the process for identifying and appointing a new incumbent and to ensure that the life of St Mary's continues with minimal disruption during the vacancy period. We will be contacting our numerous "stakeholders" to involve them in this as appropriate.

We are sure we express the sentiments of the whole Parish when we say how profoundly grateful we are to have been blessed with John and Pippa's service to St Mary's Church and the wider Byfleet community for the last 18 years and, ahead of more formal farewell events, wish them all of God's blessing and favour in the years ahead.

Yours in Christ
