Byfleet's Big Volunteering Project 8th May

In the ‘Big Voluntering’ project in Byfleet this weekend as well as throughout the nation, St Mary’s Church Byfleet joined up with the Residents Association. It was all part of a fantastic day really well co-ordinated by Eleanor Grady, to whom we all say Thank you!

While dozens of litter pickers worked around the streets of Byfleet, a group worked on a much needed project in the closed section of St Mary’s Churchyard (maintained by WBC)

The south end had become overgrown with brambles, which the team were able to remove!

While working, we also stopped to admire the way in which Dick Alder has marked up the ancient woodland species Meadow Saxifrage, which flourishes in some churchyards, so as to prevent close mowing. Yvonne Heard, Dick Alder’s biggest encourager, is pictured with Dahlia Jurje next to the marked-off area!
